Bill & Catherine's Helpful Oct. Quilting Tip:
Reduce Bulk - Are you having trouble piecing and pressing blocks with many seam allowances in one place? Does your fabric feed to the left when the foot approaches a thick seam allowance?
- You can reduce bulk by reducing the thread weight (higher number weight) Change the bobbin thread to a higher number, such as an 80 weight instead of a 50 weight.
- Try a pre-wound bobbin. We carry pre-wound bobbins for the ELNA and Janome machines. The thread on our pre-wound bobbins is an 80 weight polyester.
This summer Bill and I worked on the "Circa 1825" quilt together. Bill, who you know is an excellent piecer, was having trouble with the bulk where 6 seams came together. I could see what he meant, but it wasn't a really difficult block. We did 2 things to correct that. The first was to change the foot from a regular 1/4 inch foot to a walking foot. Next we used one of the pre-wound bobbins and Ouilah'!
We hope you try it and have a good result as well.
